Inspiration For TANK

Inspiration strikes at the craziest times. I could be doing something I do everyday. A monotonous routine that will get all shook up simply by someone saying something. Something a little different, something I’ve never heard before, and BAM. Inspiration will hit me like a brick, and ideas will flow so fast I know I need to run to write them down. And sometimes, I’ll wish for that brick to the head but end up with nothing. Maybe feathers if I’m lucky.

And while I wish I could say I’m super creative, I’m not. I have to search the internet for inspiration daily. When it came to trying to pair a motorcycle to the characters in my new series, well, I was more lost than ever. I’ve never even been on a motorcycle, much less do I know anything at all about them. So, I did what any desperate housewife/mom/writer would do. I asked a guy. And I searched the Harley website. See, real creative, I know.

But, inspiration did come as I am a visual person and Harley has some beautiful pictures of their motorcycles. So without further ado, I will introduce you to the motorcycles of the series.

Tank’s bike: A Harley Davidson Road King in Billet Silver.

JoJo’s Bike: A Harley Davidson Street 500 in Vivid Black.

Father’s Bike: A Harley Davidson Heritage Softail in Crushed Ice Pearl and Frosted Teal Pearl.

And Steele’s bike is a bit more of my own creation, as I couldn’t find a picture of exactly what I wanted for him. This picture was taken from www.350cc.com. Steele drives and Indian Chopper with flames, but imagine red instead of orange. Fire engine red at that.

Which is your favorite? Personally, I’m partial to all of them, but there is something about Tank’s bike I like the most.

What Kind of Car Would You Be and Why?

In honor of my new book, TANK, set to release on May 17, I figured this month should be dedicated to Modes of Transportation! Seeing as how Tank rides a motorcycle, I thought, why not? And, my middle son’s nickname is…you guessed it, Tank, and his favorite thing in the world right now is fast cars! He’s only three. How do boys and their toys start so young?

Anyway, when I was in college I applied to be a RA. Me, a Resident Assistant, what a bad idea! But, somehow, miraculously, I got the job. During this process of applying to be a RA is when I got my first REAL dose of job interviewing. I had to answer some questions in front of a panel, do some other tricks like stand on my head. Okay, not really, but it sort of felt like it. But one thing I remember very vividly in the interview process was I had to answer a series of questions, essay style. And one of the questions was If you were a car, what kind would you be and why?

Now, I’m not a car person like my son or my husband, but I didn’t have to think too much on this. If I were a car I would be a pink Jeep Wrangler. A Jeep Wrangler is an all terrain vehicle, rough and tough enough to get the job done, and pink, because well, I am a female after all. I wrote that answer ten years ago, and still, to this day, my answer stays the same.

Now, I’m mother of three, and everyday life throws something at me that by the grace of God I have been rough and touch enough to get the job done, and somehow, someway retained a little bit of my femininity. A very little bit, but still, it is there.

So my question for you is…

But rejoice! There is some good, and some reasons to celebrate in January, and I’m going to share them with you now. Granted, these “holidays” are for the United States, but if you are reading from another country, have no fear! We won’t mind sharing our special “holidays” with you as well!

So, without further ado, here is a reason to celebrate everyday this week!

Monday, January 23– National Pie Day. That’s right. Cut yourself a piece, it’s a holiday after all and a Monday. You deserve it!

Tuesday, January 24– National Compliment Day. You look fabulous, sitting there, reading this blog. You should do it more often!

Wednesday, January 25– National Opposite Day. I’m not really sure what you would do on this day. Maybe wear your socks on your hands? I don’t know!

Thursday, January 26– National Spouse’s Day. Spend a little extra time with your honey today; they deserve it.

Friday, January 27– National Punch the Clock Day. That should really be on a Monday, so how about we celebrate National Chocolate Cake Day instead! Yeah, I think that’s a better idea. Besides, it’s Friday. Relax a little. You’ve had a hard week. You deserve a piece of cake.

Saturday, January 28– National Data Privacy Day. You think Google and Amazon got the memo?

Sunday, January 29– National Puzzle Day AND National Corn Chip Day. How about celebrating by working a puzzle while eating corn chips. Best of both worlds right there!

So, see! There are some good things to January besides cold weather and crazy political rants on television. Go out, have a great week, and eat some cake! You deserve it.

Enjoying the Rain.

Enjoy the rain y'all!

Man, oh man, can you believe half of January is already gone? I know, time flies doesn’t it? Well, it does when you have a whole lot of things to do in that time, it seems. But, as I sit here, typing this blog post there is rain steadily falling outside my office window, the house is dark and quiet because my boys are napping, and I have a warm cup of coffee at my side. Really, time’s like these I savor. Just a moment, a moment of peace, of silence, and a moment of thankful praises that I am not outside getting drenched in that rain. Or in some of y’alls cases January snow, but we don’t get much of that in Texas.

What I should be doing is using the last twenty minutes of my time before my daughter gets home and spending it on my next novel. I know I should, but my heart isn’t in it today. Today, my heart is telling me to slow down, take it easy, and enjoy your surroundings.  I’m thankful the hustle and bustle of Christmas is over, and I’m joyful I can surround myself in things I love: my children, my coffee, and my kindle. Because there is nothing better than a warm cup of coffee and a good book on a rainy afternoon. If you need something to warm you up on a cold January day, I’ve got a couple of good-looking cowboys waiting to sweep you off your feet!

Enjoy the rain, y’all!

Cover Reveal

It’s that time again. Time for another reveal! Yah! Last February, The Wild Rose Press did a call for their new Candy Heart’s Series. The title of the manuscript had to be one of those cute little sayings off of a candy heart that you eat around Valentine’s Day. Well, the term Text Me stood out in my mind, and before I knew it, I had the outline for a short Valentine’s story.

A few weeks later, I had the story down on paper and submitted to an agent. Much to my luck, it was accepted, and now I have another short story published with The Wild Rose Press.

(Insert another one of my infamous happy dances here.)

Release day is January 27, and as soon as the pre-sale link goes up, you will know. Trust me!

Excerpt:

Valentine’s Day.

She sank deeper into the couch. What was she going to do? She couldn’t show up alone to the company dance. Not with the chance of Grayson being there. No way.

“Maybe go to another speed dating session?” She grabbed a tissue off the coffee table and wiped the excess slime from her fingers.

“My hairdresser’s single. You want me to ask him?”

“Your hairdresser’s gay. I don’t think he’d be interested in me.”

“Really?” Megan gave her a funny stare.

“Really.” Erika snorted. “Have you not seen the picture of him and his ex-partner at his station?”

“That was his partner?” Her friend’s mouth gapped open. “I thought it was his brother.”

She shook her head. Her friend was one of the smartest people she knew, but common sense eluded the girl.

Megan popped more hearts in her mouth. “That explains so much now,” she mumbled around the candy. “No wonder my hair always looks good.”

“Yes, it does.” Erika sipped her wine.

Her friend swallowed. “Well, I’m sorry, honey. I don’t know any single guys. If I did, I’d try to date them myself.”

“That’s okay.” She sighed and slumped back onto the sofa.

“Is Grayson single?”

“I don’t know. Why are you asking?” She narrowed her gaze. “You want to date him?”

“No.” Her friend said “no” as if it was the most obvious answer in the world. “I’m thinking about you. You wouldn’t go back out with Grayson again, would you? Please say no.” Megan’s shoulders sagged.

Go back out with Grayson. She never thought she’d be given another chance. Would she go back out with him after the way he treated her? Of course not. She deserved better, despite how wonderful he had been.

“I don’t think so. He really hurt me. I can’t give him that privilege again.”

“Good for you.” Her roommate perked up and patted her on the back. “Stay strong. You’ll find someone.”

“You’re right. I’m going to have a date for that corporate Valentine’s dance, even if I have to search the classifieds.”

“Surely, it won’t come to that.” Megan held up her glass for a toast.

Erika clinked hers with her friend’s. “Yeah, surely.”

Her roommate sat her glass down on the table and reached for more hearts.

“Here, give me one of those.”

“I love reading the little sayings.” Megan passed her a heart and tossed her dark hair behind her shoulder. “What’s yours say?”

She flipped over the candy to see the phrase. Bright pink letters stared back at her. Oh, you can’t be serious. “‘Text me’. Seriously?”

Megan burst out laughing.

“You would find that funny.” Erika popped the heart in her mouth and obliterated the little saying she had grown to hate so much.

New Release, Souls Estranged

My friend Anne has just released her second book in The Souls Trilogy. Yah, for her! And, I promised her I would help get the word out, so I’m sticking to my word. Here we go!

Souls Estranged

Book Two of

The Souls Trilogy

A Supernatural Suspense Novel

She fled to save him from the curse. Now she must flee to save herself.”

Back from their adventures in Souls Entwined, Sam Daggett begins a new relationship with Gretta Dobbs, whose memories of their time traveling experience have been erased. Determined to never leave her again, Sam vows to help Gretta, despite the bad luck curse on her heirloom ring. Within hours of their return, tragedy strikes.

As Sam becomes the third victim of the bad luck curse, Gretta’s memories of her time spent in the past begin to return. Unable to remember more than snippets, she realizes that anyone close to her is in grave danger. In order to keep Sam and her family safe, she flees in the middle of the night.

Finding the perfect summer job in the back hills of Virginia, Gretta unknowingly crosses paths with a serial killer. With guidance from their ancestral spirits, Roxana and Katarina, Sam desperately attempts to find Gretta before the curse strikes again.

“Lunch is almost ready. Here’s a list of Sam’s pre-surgery instructions.” Ruby handed the paper to Gretta. “Tim and I both have to work tomorrow so you’ll need to keep him in line.”

Sam heard the two discussing the dos and don’ts prior to his operation, yet his mind registered one thing.

Alone time with Gretta.

Gretta scrutinized the list. “What about this one?”

“Never mind,” Ruby chortled.

Gretta walked over to the kitchen and opened a drawer. Finding it empty, she smiled at Ruby. “I could have cleaned the drawers.”

“What did you say?” Ruby lifted a square of gooey lasagna from the pan.

“You crossed ‘clean drawers’ off my list.” Gretta pointed to the paper.

“No, no dear. I meant—”

“Ruby?” Sam wasn’t sure how he knew what she was going to say, but he definitely didn’t want her to continue.

“I crossed it off, Sam. After I caught you two on the couch, I wrote a list for Tim. He will make certain you have on clean—”

“Ruby!”

“Oh, hush yourself and eat.” She handed them two heaping plates.

Gretta and Sam slid into the chairs at the table. He dug into the steaming layers of pasta, cheese, and sausage. After a minute of silence, Gretta’s grin caught his eye.

“Batman or Spiderman?”

Sam laughed before answering, “Hanes. Plain, white Hanes.” He peered sideways to Ruby and lowered his voice. “Fifteen years ago, Spiderman.”

Gretta smirked, forking a hunk of pasta dripping with cheese. “Spiderman?”

“Spiderman. What about you? Cinderella or Snow White?” He watched her savor her food.

She wiped cheese and sauce off her lips with one finger and licked it clean. “Cinderella.”
